A Visual Approach for Name Disambiguation in Coauthorship Networks


Academic publication archives often draw from numerous, heterogeneous sources, whose records can follow differing naming conventions. As such, ambiguity issues concerning authorship of scientific papers often arise, such as authors sharing similar names, the use of first names versus initials, or alternate name spellings for the same author. We have developed a visual system to interactively control and apply several analytic name disambiguation algorithms in a finely controlled manner, and to present the results to the user for verification or correction.



Researchers

Javid Chien-Hsin Hsueh, received his B.S and M.S. in Computer Science from National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan in 2009 and 2011, respectively. Currently, he is pursuing Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at UC Davis His research interests include information visualization, visual analytics, and human-computer interaction.
